Search for missing woman stood down after body found in Moray river

THE body of a woman was recovered from a river in Moray today as the search for a 64 year-old female, missing from Elgin’s main hospital, was stood down.

The body of the woman, who has still to be identified, was recovered from the River Lossie in Elgin at 8am after police officers were called to the scene.

A force spokeswoman said: “Grampian Police can confirm officers were called to the River Lossie in Elgin at around 8am this morning following the discovery of a woman’s body.

“Although investigations into the circumstances are at an early stage, there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course.

“The identity of the deceased will not be released until next of kin are aware. “

However, Grampian Police has stood down its search for Margaret McVey, 64. who had been reported missing from Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin. Ms McVey was last seen during the evening of Sunday, 17 December at the hospital. When last seen she was wearing an olive coloured jacket and blue jeans.
