Seabird Centre unveils ex-zoo chief as new chairman

A FORMER chief executive of the operators of Edinburgh Zoo has been appointed chairman of the Scottish Seabird Centre in East Lothian.

David Windmill was voted into the post after current chairman Neil Rankin announced he was standing down from the job last week.

Mr Windmill was previously head of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, which runs Edinburgh Zoo. He is also the Honorary Consul General for Norway in Scotland.

He said: “I’m very much looking forward to taking over from Neil Rankin, who has had an impressive number of achievements during his time in this role. There are some exciting times ahead and I’m confident the international reputation of the five-star centre will continue to grow while remaining firmly based in the local community.”

Tom Brock, chief executive of the North Berwick centre, said that Mr Windmill’s extensive experience in running attractions would be a great asset in continuing to attract visitors.
