Scottish Water aid heads for flood-hit Pakistan

A CONSIGNMENT of urgently-needed humanitarian aid was due to arrive in flood-hit Pakistan today as part of the Scottish effort to help those affected by the disaster.

The aid package includes 4,000 collapsible water containers and 10,000 water sterilisation tablets.

The equipment was donated by Scottish Water, with the Scottish Government also helping to co-ordinate the aid effort.

External affairs minister Fiona Hyslop watched the plane carrying the supplies leave Glasgow Airport yesterday.

She said: "We understand that access to clean water is one of the greatest challenges and most urgent requirements in the affected areas.

"This equipment will be put to use as soon as possible by the Pakistani National Disaster Management Authority."
