Donald Trump ousted by Sturgeon as biz ambassador

Donald Trump was ousted from his role as a business ambassador for Scotland by Nicola Sturgeon in the wake of a proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the US. The Republican presidential candidate was appointed a GlobalScot ambassador in 2006. Robert Gordon University are also considering withdrawing an honorary degree it gave to the US tycoon. He was also stripped of his honorary degree from Robert Gordon University.

Alistair Carmichael court bid fails

Liberal Democrat MP Alistair Carmichael has been cleared of allegations that he breached electoral laws during this year’s general election.

The former Scottish Secretary allegedly breached the Representation of the People Act by telling a TV journalist that he didn’t know anything about a confidential memo that had been leaked to the Daily Telegragh.

The document was leaked by Mr Carmichael’s special advisor Euan Rodden and Mr Carmichael authorised the leak.

Angela Eagle clashes with George Osborne at PMQs

First Secretary of State Angela Eagle filled in for Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn at PMQs today as she traded jokes and barbs with Chancellor George Osborne. Ms Eagle poked fun at the absent Prime Minister, who was attending EU renegotiation talks. She described the Prime Minister’s diplomatic offensive as a “seemingly endless renegotiation tour”, and joked: “He has been jetting all over the place, no wonder we had to buy him his own aeroplane.”

Angela Merkel is Time’s Person of the Year

German chancellor Angela Merkel has been named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year. Mrs Merkel was praised by the magazine for her leadership on everything from Syrian refugees to the Greek debt crisis.

Time also cited Mrs Merkel’s strong response to “Vladimir Putin’s creeping theft of Ukraine” and on its cover called her “Chancellor of the free world”.

Prince Harry ignores Jack Whitehall at Royal Variety

The annual royal variety show took place last night, with comedian Jack Whitehall as the host. Throughout the night the comedian aimed numerous jokes towards Prince Harry, so at the end of the night got his own back by pretending to ignore him while shaking hands with all the performers. The Prince laughed it off and proceeded to chat away with Jack good-humouredly.
