Scot spotted celebrating Uruguay win over England

A SCOTTISH football fan has taken the World Cup by storm after being pictured cheering on Uruguay as they defeated England 2-1 in Sao Paulo last night.

The supporter - named as Mark McConville and bedecked in See You Jimmy hat, Scotland away strip and waving a sizeable Saltire - was captured by TV cameras, sparking a huge response on social media.

Some England fans vowed to be in the away end ‘the next time Scotland make it to a major tournament’ while others made joky references to the independence referendum.

Hailing from Glasgow, Mark reportedly works as an engineer for the Mercedes F1 team, and is currently doing charity work in Brazil, donating old football strips to an orphanage in Sao Paulo.

According to friends, he also followed Uruguay during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

England, who are now on the brink of a World Cup exit, had drawn level through Wayne Rooney’s first World Cup goal after Luis Suarez had given the South American side the lead in the first half, before the Liverpool striker bagged his and Uruguay’s second in the 85th minute.

Roy Hodgson’s men now need other results to work in their favour if they are to progress.

Mark wasn’t the only Scot supporting the Uruguayans - four others were pictured in a variety of ‘retro’ Scotland tops just behind Joe Hart’s goal in the first half.
