Peter Capaldi ‘won’t revive Malcolm Tucker role’

PETER Capaldi has turned down requests from BBC chiefs begging the Scots actor to revive Malcolm Tucker, according to reports.

The Glasgow-born actor, who rose to prominence thanks to his role as the sweary spin doctor in political satire The Thick of It, is currently starring as Doctor Who.

And Armando Iannucci, who created The Thick of It, has revealed how Beeb bosses begged Capaldi to bring Tucker back.

Iannucci told The Sun: “I do get emails saying, ‘Any chance?’ But Peter won’t be swayed. Before he became the Doctor, we decided we were going to bring it to an end.

“That was the right decision, I think particularly for him. I know he wanted to move on and do something else and didn’t want to be defined as just Malcolm Tucker.”

Capaldi, who recently had roles in the Paddington film and BBC newsroom drama The Hour, was named the Twelfth Doctor in the long-running sci-fi series, and is understood to want to maintain his family-friendly image.

Malcolm Tucker’s sweary rants and inventive insults were a highlight of The Thick of It, which ran from 2005 until 2012 poking fun at the inner workings of the UK Government.
