Heavy rain to batter parts of Scotland this week - the forecast as yellow weather warning issued

Some areas of Scotland are set to see wet conditions over the next few days, as heavy rain gets ready to hit.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain to several areas of the country, covering Central Scotland, Tayside and Fife, Highlands and Eilean Siar, and Strathclyde.

This weather warning is in place from 6am on Thursday (5 Dec) to 12pm on Friday (6 De).

The Met Office said, “Blustery showers will turn to more persistent rain on Thursday morning, turning heavy at times and continuing for the rest of the day.

“The rain will be accompanied by gale force southwesterly winds, with potential for gusts of 55-65 mph around coasts and hills. 

“40-60 mm of rainfall is expected widely across the warning area, but nearer 70-80 mm over the West Highlands and a few prone mountain locations could exceed 100 mm within a 30 hour period.”

- Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer

- Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer

- Some minor interruptions to power supplies and other services are possible

 

Weekend weather

The UK weather forecast for Thursday (5 Dec) to Saturday (7 Dec) explains that there will be “patchy frost in the south Thursday, before rain, heavy across western Scotland, pushes southeast.

“Showers follow for Friday, before further spells of rain or showers Saturday. Milder generally, often windy.”

Looking further ahead, the Met Office UK outlook for Saturday (7 Dec) to Monday (16 Dec) said, “Into the next week, the more changeable theme is likely to persist with spells of more organised cloud, rain and stronger winds followed by some brighter, showery and colder interludes.”
