Scottish Christmas Day weather update

Forecasters say there is no chance of even the slightest dusting of snow anywhere in Scotland on Christmas Day.

Last year saw the coldest December for 100 years with temperatures plunging to -17 degrees on Christmas Day in some parts of the country.

Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh all recorded a white Christmas.

Chris Burton, a forecaster at MeteoGroup, said: “We’re expecting no snow at all. The only chance of snow is tonight and tomorrow morning in the mountains of Scotland but as it warms up and rain increases, that snow will disappear.”

Mild weather is expected across Scotland with rain showers affecting most parts of the country.

Low cloud and drizzle are set to be prevalent in the west.

Temperatures between 7C (44.6F) and 10C (50F) are expected across the UK on Christmas Eve with warmer temperatures ranging from 10C (50F) to 14C (57.2) on Christmas Day.

“Some parts will reach as high as 14C (57.2) in the north-eastern parts of Scotland such as Aberdeen and Edinburgh,” Mr Burton said.

Bookmakers WIlliam Hill say the odds on a white Christmas in the UK are now 2/1 with Aberdeen the favourite city to see snow at 5/6.
