Scotswomen lag on beauty spending

SCOTTISH women spend less than half the British average of £133,575 on their appearance over their lifetimes, according to a new survey.

Maintaining their looks with everything from gym work-outs to facials and haircuts typically costs British women 2,055 per year.

There are huge regional variations, with Londoners splashing out 151,320 on their beauty during their lives and 2,328 annually.

However, Scottish and Welsh women spend less than half as much on their bodies - 63,115 and 73,060 respectively (971 and 1,124 annually). Men, meanwhile, fork out an average of 75,030 on looking good, researchers found.

Women spend the most - 46,605 in a lifetime and 717 annually - on staying in shape.

Hair care is the second-biggest expense - 26,325 in a lifetime and 405 per year, the survey for retailer QVC found.
