Scots ‘would be like Malta’

AN independent Scotland would resemble a small country like Malta when it came to its significance on currency, a senior government minister has said.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander said Scotland’s economy, while important, only resembled one-tenth of the UK’s economy, meaning it would be an insignificant player in a currency union, it was reported today.

He compared Scotland within a Sterling union to the case of Germany, which is seen to be a much larger player in the eurozone than other smaller countries such as Malta.
