Scots woman's stepson charged with her murder

THE stepson of a Scottish woman who was stabbed to death in America has appeared in court charged with second degree murder.

Tracy Brannan, 33, originally from Glasgow, was attacked at the home she shared with her husband Harold, 60, who was also injured.

The couple married in May after Mrs Brannan, born Tracy Wyatt, moved to the US to start a new life. The pair were living in Omaha, Nebraska.

Her stepson David Brannan, 21, is alleged to have attacked her and then stabbed himself. He was taken to hospital and was arrested after he was released following treatment.

The stepson appeared in a court room at the Douglas County Correctional Centre yesterday, prosecutors said. He faces a number of charges including second degree murder.

Shelly Stratman, a deputy county attorney for Douglas County, said: "David Brannan went in front of the judge at 9am.

"His bond is set at $1 million dollars (635,000) and his preliminary hearing is set for 13 August."
