Scots study surveillance

SCOTS universities are to lead a Europe-wide study of how people have adjusted their lives to being watched.

Researchers from the universities of Stirling and Edinburgh are among a consortium of partners across Europe awarded a three-year research grant of £2.16 million for the project.

The study, titled Increasing Resilience in Surveillance, will examine “democratic responses to the widespread surveillance technologies of our everyday lives”.

Researchers will look at the resilience of societies and aim to discover how they react and adjust to the knowledge that they are being observed, and their personal information is being gathered.
