Scots GPs seek 25% pay rise

FAMILY doctors in the NHS Grampian area are spearheading a campaign for a 25 per cent pay rise to bring Scottish GPs in line with colleagues south of the Border.

GPs have lodged a motion, due to go before the annual conference of Scottish Local Medical Committees, which demands parity with English pay scales.

They claim their jobs are becoming more complicated and the extra pressures they face justify the call, which it is understood would result in annual salaries for Scottish GPs rising from 80,000 to about 105,000.

Margaret Watt, of the Scotland Patients Association, said the demand was "unacceptable".
