Scots doctors face hearings over their fitness to practise

TWO Scottish doctors face separate hearings this week into their fitness to practise.

Dr Alistair Waygood, who practises in Glasgow, has been pulled before the panel for misconduct – after a string of incidents including public drunkenness and fraud.

Lanarkshire gynaecologist Dr David McMurray also faces a disciplinary panel – after unacceptable delays in treating a woman who was at high risk of cancer.

The General Medical Council Fitness to Practise Panel in Manchester will inquire into allegations that Dr Waygood failed to inform the GMC after he was charged with breach of the peace in Edinburgh, public drunkenness in Cornwall and fraud in London. The panel is expected to rule on whether Dr Waygood is fit to practice as a doctor on 1 April.

Dr McMurray also faces a decision on his fitness to practise after admitting an 'inappropriate delay' in performing a hysterectomy. A decision is expected by 8 April.
