Scots designers ‘standout’ at London Fashion Week

SCOTTISH designers were among the highlights of the third day of London Fashion Week, as the annual event swapped its upmarket home at Somerset House for a series of tents and converted parking garages across the city.

Perfectly coiffed fashionistas, journalists and upstart fashion bloggers packed out the edgy venues yesterday as part of the five-day showcase which marks a highlight in the international fashion calendar.

Glasgow-born designer Jonathan Saunders unveiled his latest collection for spring/summer 2016, exploring textiles from batiks and paisleys to bold prints with pops of his trademark bright hues.

The show, held at a marquee near Kings Cross station, was described as a “standout” by fashion bible Vogue and was sure to delight his famous fans including Madonna and Kylie Minogue.

Iconic label Pringle of Scotland also showcased its modern take on classic knitwear.

The collection featured clean cutsuits in cream and deep burgundy, as well as Pringle’s signature argyle knit pattern.

The brand celebrated its 200th birthday this year, tracing roots back to its founding in 1815 by Robert Pringle, as a manufacturer of hosiery and underwear.

Other Sunday highlights included Dame Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label, Paul Smith and Temperley London.

Paralympic athlete Stefanie Reid became the first amputee to grace the London catwalk, by opening acclaimed designer Lenie Boya’s show on Saturday.

Organised by the British Fashion Council, the lavish spectacle is hosted twice a year and is considered to be one of the “Big Four” fashion weeks, along with Paris, New York and Milan.
