Scots comic Craig Ferguson angers his hometown Cumbernauld
Ferguson, who grew up in the town but is now a US citizen, told viewers of the Late Late Show on CBS that his hometown was “a pretty terrible place”.
His comments were labelled “nonsense” and “not justified” by North Lanarkshire councillor Gerry McElroy.

Hide AdFerguson, who was in conversation with journalist and author Jon Ronson, said: “It usually wins the prize for the second-worst town in the UK.”
When Ronson, whose wife comes from Cumbernauld, apologised for being harsh about the town, Ferguson replied: “No you’re not. You’re being very gentle on Cumbernauld.”
He added: There’s only one problem in Scotland: Cumbernauld.”
Councillor McElroy, chairman of Campsies Centre Cumbernauld, the company set up by North Lanarkshire Council to rejuvenate the town, said: “He’s a bit of a traitor going on US TV and talking this town down.
“Everything that’s been said is absolute nonsense and not justified. When was he last in Cumbernauld?”
