Scots are UK’s most likely have-a-go heroes

SCOTS are the UK’s most likely have a go heroes, with a YouGov poll of almost 1,800 Brits finding a third of Scots would intervene to stop antisocial behaviour, compared to one in five Londoners.

Policy Exchange, a think tank which commissioned the poll, is advocating the creation of Citizen Police Academies, which would use police and voluntary groups to train members of the public on how to fight crime.

Edward Boyd, author of a report Policing 2020, for the Policy Exchange, said: “The police will always play the central role in the fight against crime, yet the public still has a part to play.

“It’s quite understandable that most people feel reluctant to be a ‘have-a-go’ hero and it is important that they have the confidence to intervene and know when it is appropriate.

“Citizen Police Academies are one way of helping the public feel more confident about their role in preventing criminal activity.”
