Scotland doctor is given top accolade

The doctor who treated injured rugby player Thom Evans on the field has received the "ultimate recognition" from a top medical body, it was disclosed today.

Dr James Robson was awarded the accolade from The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He was the first medic to treat Thom Evans at the Millennium Stadium during Scotland's defeat to Wales in the 2010 Six Nations.

Evans later credited the quick actions of the doctor with preventing permanent paralysis.

It is extremely rare for the Fellowship ad hominem to be presented to a non-surgeon.

Dr Robson, 52, said he was "flabbergasted" to be awarded such an honour.

He added: "It's incredible. I'm not a surgeon and to be recognised by a college like this is just fantastic."
