Scientists' cells breakthrough

SCIENTISTS at Edinburgh University have made a breakthrough on regenerating tissue without using genetic modification.

Their research has found that it is possible to convert one stem type to another without using the controversial GM model.

The discovery could have an impact on the future of tissue regeneration.

The university teamed up with the University of Lausanne in Switzerland to carry out the work, which was published in the journal Nature.

The cells they used were transplanted into developing skin, and were able to maintain both skin and hair for more than a year.

It is hoped this process can be transferred to other organs.
