Schools open despite weather

THE majority of Scottish children will return to their classroom today as most councils opted to re-open at least a proportion of their schools.

Only six of Scotland's 32 local authorities - Aberdeen City, Clackmannanshire, Dundee, Falkirk, Midlothian and West Lothian - are to close all educational establishments, while five others are to instruct all pupils to return to school.

Most children have now stayed at home for two days as council leaders said the weather had made it too difficult for pupils and teachers to get to schools.

East Dunbartonshire, East Lothian, Perth & Kinross, Renfrewshire and South Lanarkshire said last night they would re-open all schools, while many others, including Edinburgh and Glasgow, told parents to consult their websites for information on which schools would be open.
