Schoolgirl, 13, dies after heart attack

THE family of a 13-year-old girl who died following a heart attack have spoken of their shock following the loss of the much loved teenager.

Caitlin Gray, 13, went into cardiac arrest at her home in Barrhead, East Renfrewshire, on 8 March.

She was taken to Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital where doctors battled to save her life.

But, despite their efforts, Caitlin, a talented musician, died a week later on 13 March.

Her funeral will be held at Bourock Parish Church, Barrhead, from 10:15am today.

A tribute video on YouTube has received over 1,000 visits.

Caitlin’s mother, Angela, 42, said her family, including husband John, 52, and son Callum, 15, have been left devastated.

“Caitlin was loved by her friends and by her family,” she said. “Her friends and their parents have been amazing and a great support.

“She was just loved by her pals and loved by her family.”

Caitlin played the viola in Barrhead High School’s string ensemble and East Renfrewshire Schools Junior Symphony Orchestra.

Andy Sinclair, headteacher of Barrhead High School, said: “Caitlin was a bright, popular pupil always determined to give her best and to achieve.

“She was a quiet girl but increasingly a confident young woman and she will be remembered fondly by us all.”
