School flags up racing win to secure Silverstone trip

AN Edinburgh school has won a trip to Silverstone after securing the top spot in a national car racing technology competition.

S4 pupils from George Watson's College were successful in the Formula Schools contest, a competition to design, build and race a scaled-down, fuel-engined, remote-controlled car.

The actual race accounted for 30 per cent of the teams' marks, while 70 per cent came from judging the cars - including engineering, teamwork and the sponsorship gained. The George Watson's team - called Marcia Racing - had designed each part of the project.

Sponsorship came from auctioning an F1 visor signed by Nico Rosberg and Rubens Barrichello while they were part of Team Williams, which was donated to the team by The Royal Bank Of Scotland.

Other fundraising took place within the school and a demonstration and presentation was made to the Merchant Company of Edinburgh.
