School choirs win slots on Christmas TV

THE award-winning choir of Edinburgh Academy is set to make its latest appearance on Songs of Praise on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The choir won the BBC show’s School Choir of the Year competition earlier this year, marking its first appearance on the long-running programme.

The Academy’s Senior School Chamber Choir became the first from a Scottish school to win the UK-wide BBC competition. In addition, the Academy’s Junior School Choir also won the Edinburgh Festival school choir competition.

The Edinburgh Academy’s choir master Angus Tully said: “We are over the moon to have won this coveted title and to make these television appearances.

“The result of this competition is a credit to the choir members’ consistent hard work and the commitment of the Academy to its music programme, which affords our pupils some fantastic opportunities.”
