Savings to protect key services

SAVINGS of £1.2 million have been identified by Midlothian Council in a bid to protect frontline services.

A new strategy for procuring goods and services has been approved by the council to make the saving by March 2014.

At a full council meeting recently, councillors agreed being as efficient as possible and getting the most out of the money they spend on services and goods was a key way to protect frontline services.

The new arrangements will also impact on the council’s key objectives such as conserving and improving Midlothian’s environment, delivering responsive and effective services and maximising business opportunities.
