Sausage factory ‘must be saved’

A TASKFORCE should be set up to save a sausage factory which employs 200 people, Labour has said.

Staff at Freshlink Foods in Shettleston, Glasgow, were told on 22 June that the company was in a 90-day consultation period about the future of the outlet.

It could mean the plant is relocated,w but a spokesman said several options were being considered.

Labour claims the factory is “profitable” and said the UK and Scottish governments should work with Glasgow City Council on the issue.

Drew Smith, a Labour MSP for Glasgow, said: “The closure of this factory would be devastating for the families involved.”

A Scottish Government spokeswoman said: “Enterprise minister Fergus Ewing will be happy to meet with trade union representatives.”
