Sarah Boyack hits out at council over latest nursery closures

LOTHIANS Labour MSP Sarah Boyack has criticised the city council's decision to close High School Yards and Princess Elizabeth nursery schools.

She said it would come as a major blow to children, parents and teachers.

"These closures are a direct result of the removal of powers from headteachers by the council," she said. "At High School Yards teacher numbers have been cut, allowing the school to become under-utilised despite high demand for places.

"The council now needs to ensure alternative arrangements for the children affected are put in place as quickly as possible while supporting parents to make the right choice for their children."
