However, this was no ordinary game of ‘hook-a-duck’. For the duck that Chris Cringle hooked was 6ft tall and 6ft wide and the ‘pool’ he hooked it from was the River Clyde.

Now in its 95th year, the Irn-Bru Carnival - Europe’s largest indoor funfair - will enjoy its biggest year yet.

New for 2014 is the ‘Crazy Mouse’ rollercoaster and the ‘Dreams Live’ and ‘TopFlip’, which will take people on an ‘upside down spin’.

The ‘Extreme XL’ ride also returns for anyone who fancies being spun and swung 50ft in the air on the banks of the Clyde.

But best of all, the giant rubber duck that Santa hooked will be available for selfies.
