Salmond pledges support to ‘save Coastguard station’ campaigners

THE First Minister has given his support to a campaign to save a Coastguard station from closure, ahead of a decision on its future next month.

Alex Salmond met campaigners fighting to save the Clyde Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Greenock, ,which is under threat as part of UK government plans to overhaul the Coastguard system.

He described the proposals as “ill-advised and potentially dangerous”.

The UK government’s consultation on the modernisation of services ends on 6 October.
