Runner hits appeal target

A FUNDRAISING campaign to bring an unheralded Kenyan runner to Edinburgh to compete in the marathon has hit its target in only a week.

Japhet Keoch, who featured in the Evening News last week, has recorded a time good enough to challenge for first place, but a lack of funds has stopped him proving himself in competition.

Well-wishers have now donated the £1500 required to bring him to the Capital.

Japhet said: “I have prepared well and I am ready for Edinburgh. I will be happy to do my best in the race to improve my life through running. It will bring new hope to my family and friends, who will be amazed to see me running in such a great country.”
