Runner falls into Forth in dog rescue bid

A JOGGER who fell into the Firth of Forth while trying to save a dog had to be rescued by firefighters.

The runner saw the animal struggling in the Forth during a run yesterday morning and climbed over rocks to get to the water’s edge.

But the man, who has not been named, then slipped and fell into the water at Cramond.

He became trapped and was in the water for 15 minutes before firefighters, who had been contacted by a passer-by, threw a line out, enabling him to reach safety.

He was later collected by his wife after medics ruled out hypothermia.

Meanwhile the dog, a Gordon Setter, was able to escape by itself.

Graham Inglis, of Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue, said: “The casualty was very cold. Although it was a nice day, the sea was not still or calm.”
