On-the-run Shetland bullock injures man and woman

The two-year-old beast charged at a woman in her 70s and later trampled over a man in Lerwick on Tuesday evening.

Both were taken to the town’s Gilbert Bain Hospital but their injuries are not described as serious.

The animal escaped from a park in the Seafield area and was first spotted at about 7.30pm on the path at the back of the Clickimin South juvenile football pitches.

Onlookers who were watching an under-15 match described the incident as “incredibly scary”.

The bull then headed north along the path but shortly after returned. The cow then headed away from the parks and in the South Road, passing St Olaf’s Hall before entering Greenfield Place.

Officers used a cow to lure the bull into a walled garden, where the man was charged. They were then able to guide the animal into a trailer.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers saw the cow leaping over a wall at Tesco, it had already escaped at that time.

“It then travelled down South Road to the Clickimin Centre where it charged a woman in her 70s. She has not been seriously injured but was taken to hospital.

“The bull was escorted to a walled garden, where officers were able to take control of it. A man in his 40s was charged and stood on while they were trying to get it into a trailer. He was also taken to hospital.

“They brought in a cow to settle it down and it was taken back to its farm.”
