Rugby star on assault charge

FORMER Scots rugby star Norrie Rowan has been charged with breaking into a house and assaulting the householder.

The 60-year-old appeared before Sheriff Nigel Morrison QC at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

He made no plea or declaration to a charge of hamesucken, the Scots law term for the offence, which is alleged to have taken place last Saturday in Marchmont.

The identity of the alleged victim was not disclosed.
