RSE names next leader

THE Royal Society of Edinburgh has announced the election of Sir John Arbuthnott as the next President of the Society.

He will succeed Lord Wilson of Tillyorn in October.

Sir John Arbuthnott is a distinguished microbiologist and former Principal of the University of Strathclyde.

He also chaired the Greater Glasgow Health Board.

Current RSE President, Lord Wilson said: "The Society will be fortunate to have Sir John as President. I am sure the RSE will go from strength to strength as the National Academy of Scotland."
