Royal honour for playgroup

A LOCAL playgroup is among 15 outstanding volunteering groups from across Scotland honoured with The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service today.

East Lothian Special Needs Playschemes, which provide school holiday playschemes for children with special needs, is among 130 recipients of the award, the MBE for groups of volunteers who work in their local community for the benefit of others.

The prestigious national honour recognises the outstanding contribution made by volunteers to their local communities.

Those receiving the award in Scotland were selected from 413 groups nominated by members of the public who have been helped personally or witnessed the benefits of a group's work in their community.
