A royal audience for Film Festival

Cattrall, best known for her role as the sex-mad Samantha Jones in the hit TV series, is set to visit the Capital to promote her latest movie, Meet Monica Velour, showing as part of the festival.

The film focuses on a teenager's trip to meet Monica Velour - Cattrall - his favourite 1980s porn star.

Kings of Leon, meanwhile, will be premiering their new documentary, Talihina Sky, at the festival on June 25.

The band said the movie charts their rise to success from a strict Pentecostal upbringing in Oklahoma and Tennessee to their transformation into one of the biggest rock bands in the world.

The material has been gathered over ten years, and drummer Nathan Followill said a lot of it was never intended for the silver screen.

"We filmed the documentary for the last ten years of our lives," he said.

"We didn't know it would be anything more than just home movies, but it turned out to be something a lot bigger.

"We didn't hold anything back. We definitely put ourselves out there. I think people will be surprised at how comfortable we are at people seeing stuff most people wouldn't want to be seeing. But we'll see how it goes."

The band will be playing a concert at Murrayfield on June 26.

The announcements came as festival organisers revealed they were planning to screen two classic movies on the BBC big screen in Festival Square.

Evening screenings of the 1982 titles Tron and ET have been arranged in the lead up to the 65th EIFF kicking off on Wednesday, June 15.

A spokeswoman for the film festival said: "To celebrate Jim Jarmusch's 1982 thematic strand at EIFF65, the festival is pleased to be hosting a series of free evening screenings of classic cult titles on the BBC Big Screen in Festival Square. A rare chance to see much-loved titles as they are given the big screen treatment."

There will be 200 seats arranged in the square, available on a first-come-first-served basis but people will be able to stand around the area too.

The screenings will take place every night from 7pm on the four nights running up to the start of the festival.

Tron, which sees Jeff Bridges play genius software engineer Kevin Flynn as he is abducted into a computer programme and made to participate in gladiatorial games - including the famous Light Cycle match - will screen on June 11 and 13.

Steven Spielberg's classic ET: The Extra-Terrestrial, the story of a young boys' friendship with a stranded alien, will be shown on June 12 and 14.
