Rothesay pub Mac’s Bar raises cash for local care home

A Rothesay pub recently raised hundreds of pounds for a local care home with its annual pub quiz held over the Christmas holidays period.

On December 27, former councillor Robert Macintyre held his annual quiz in Mac’s Bar, Rothesay, with the proceeds, as always, going to a Bute organisation.

This year the beneficiary was Thomson Court Campus which received £365.

George Ross from the Castlehill Street pub, was delighted with this year’s event.

He said: “We do it for charity. It’s a very popular tradition.

“It was an excellent night, well attended. There was about 70 people here, it was really packed.

“We have been doing this for 18/19 years. It’s a tradition. We do it every year between Christmas and New Year. It’s very successful and raises money for local good causes.

“We always give the money to a local good cause. Quiz master Robert chose Thomson Court this time.”

Katie Watson from the care home at Townhead, Rothesay, thanked Mac’s Bar and revealed what the money will go towards. She said: “It was very much appreciated. It’s so kind of them to think of us.

“It’s for the whole campus which is nice. We are talking about getting an ipad for use in the building.

“So people cam maybe contact any family members who live far away, on say Skype.

“It will also allow them to access apps to help them.

“We are very thankful to Mac’s Bar and we look forward to getting an ipad to help residents to access IT skills.”

Quiz master Robert Macintyre said: “The quiz has always taken place between Christmas and New Year and I am pleased to be part of Katy and George’s entertainment programme.”
