Room prices climb in city

EDINBURGH is the second most expensive destination for hotels in Scotland, according to a new survey.

The average cost of a hotel room last year was 101, coming behind the university town of St Andrews, where visitors paid an average of 162 per night.

The increase in the Capital is up five per cent on last year - well above the UK average increase of two per cent.

Edinburgh was the second most popular city in the UK for overseas travellers, behind London.

It was also third most popular for domestic visitors behind London and Manchester, according to the latest Hotels.com price index.
