Roof caves in on home idea

A RESIDENT who wanted to build a new house in their back garden has seen the plans dashed after council chiefs decided to reject the project.

Elspeth Burnside applied for planning permission to build a single-storey home in the rear garden of the property in Bryans Road, Newtongrange.

But the plan drew objections from neighbours who were unhappy that trees would have to be cut down to make way for the new building.

The application was thrown out by Midlothian Council.
