Rock ‘n’ run in Capital to beat cancer

CITY runners have been urged to sign-up for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Edinburgh Half Marathon to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Laura Johnston, a beauty therapy lecturer at the West Lothian College, is to take on the challenge in memory of Bill Wylie, father of her lifelong friend, Barbara.

Bill passed away from prostate cancer in October, while Laura’s mother-in-law Audrey, 74, is currently receiving ­treatment for breast cancer.

Laura, 41, from Linlithgow, said: “Training to take part in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Edinburgh Half Marathon has been a mammoth task, but the overwhelming support I’ve received has inspired me in my training. It’s been great doing something positive to raise money for Cancer Research UK.”

The half marathon will take place on April 14, starting and finishing in Holyrood Park, with live bands playing along the route.

Glasgow band Franco have been announced as the headline act for the main stage in Holyrood Park, supported by Campbell’s Wild, Hello Frisco, Madison, and Jim Black and Mark Patterson.
