Robocam to keep an eye on clubbers

DOOR staff at one of the biggest nightclubs to hit the Capital are to get state-of-the-art video headsets to help them deal with trouble inside the premises.

Bouncers at the new venue, City, which opens tomorrow night in the basement of the old Evening News offices, will be wired up with the tiny video cameras to keep a Big Brother-style eye on revellers.

The surveillance equipment, called Robocam, which costs almost 3000 per headset, will also be used to keep door staff in line.

The headset with a digital camera and microphone saves sound and images to a tamper-proof unit on the doorman’s belt.

And everything the clubber and bouncer says or does is recorded on video, which can be used in court.

Robocam will be used to support the 100,000 state-of-the-art 32 camera digital system already installed in City in Market Street.

John Gallacher, Stirling-based Castle Leisure Group security manager, said: "The most exiting development we’ve added to our bank of safety and security tools is Robocam.

"It’s a big incentive to guests to act responsibly. When we’ve tested the system in our other venues, such as Stirling, we’ve found people think twice before setting out to cause trouble. They can see they’ll be recorded if they do."

City includes a Sportsters sports bar and diner, City Grill and private members’ lounge, along with its flagship City nightclub.
