Robin van Persie named Street League ambassador

A TOP international footballer has given his support to a charity which uses the sport to tackle youth unemployment in the Capital.

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has been named as an ambassador for Street League, which runs sessions in Sighthill.

The Dutch international, said: “There are almost one million young people out of work in the UK. Street League are amazing because they use the power of football to get the most disadvantaged into work, education and training.”

The charity, which has just started a website, works in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the UK – with 76 per cent of graduates from their academy getting a job or training. Chief executive Matt Stevenson-Dodd said: “For every four young people who graduate from our academy programme, two get jobs and one moves into training.”
