Robber guilty of attacking woman in car

AN ARMED robber subjected an accounts manager to a terrifying kidnap ordeal after being freed early from a previous prison sentence.

David Bacon was back on the streets and able to carry out the frightening crime fewer than nine months after being jailed for 16 months for a similar crime. Bacon was jailed in October last year, but by July this year was free to hold Janette King up in her car and threaten to abduct her.

Ms King, 41, was left trembling as Bacon jumped into her car and demanded money from her before telling her that she should drive him to the nearest cashline machine.

Yesterday at Perth Sheriff Court, Bacon – who told his victim he was armed with a knife – admitted attacking Ms King in the car park of the Huntingtower Hotel in Perth on 27 July.

He admitted pulling her car door open, repeatedly demanding money and that she drive him, and trying to enter the car before stealing her car keys.

Fiscal-depute Charmaine Cole said the victim was an accounts manager who was doing paperwork in her car after finishing a business meeting at the hotel.

She said Bacon repeatedly asked her to go to the bank to get money for him, becoming agitated and aggressive.

“She was looking around for help and trying to make a run for it. She saw another car. The accused leaned in and took the keys out of the ignition.

“The complainer took this opportunity to get out and run over to the other car which was coming towards them. The accused ran off into a wooded area.”

Sentence on drug addict Bacon – whose record contains 60 previous offences – was deferred until next week.
