A ROADSIDE bomb killed five US soldiers in southern Afghanistan yesterday, the US military said.

The latest deaths came less than a week after American forces suffered their worst single loss of the Afghan war, when Taleban insurgents shot down a helicopter killing 30 Americans.
At least 50 Western troops have been killed so far in August.
