Road traffic levels fall by 2.1%

Road traffic levels fell last year, with driving being affected by snowy conditions at the beginning and end of 2010, according to government figures.

Provisional statistics showed that, judged by vehicle miles travelled, traffic in 2010 was 2.1 per cent lower than in 2009. Levels were particularly dragged down by the cold December which resulted in traffic in October-December falling by an estimated 3.5 per cent compared with the same period of 2009.
