Road junction work begins

WORK to improve road safety at a busy junction in West Lothian is set to begin.

An eight-week construction programme at the Linburn Road junction on the A71 east of Wilkieston Village starts today.

It will include widening the existing carriageway to provide a right turn lane for eastbound traffic on to the U28 to Kirknewton, along with the installation of traffic islands and signals.

As well as improving general safety for vehicles, it will also help reduce potential delays to bus services coming on to the A71 from Kirknewton.

There will be some disruption to both east and westbound traffic on the A71, and to traffic on the U28 entering the A71 during this period.

Robert De Bold, executive councillor for the environment, said: "I'm delighted to see this junction being upgraded, as it will deliver real road safety benefits in the area.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
