Road crash cyclist, 75, dies

An elderly woman seriously injured when her bicycle crashed with a car has died in hospital.

Audrey Fyfe, 75, was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with head injuries after the crash in the city on Tuesday evening.

She died at about 9pm on Thursday.

The accident, involving a silver Vauxhall Vectra, happened at the junction of Portobello Road and Craigentinny Avenue at about 6:30pm on Tuesday.

She was in a critical condition for two days and despite medics' "best efforts" she passed away.

Lothian and Borders Police are still investigating the crash and have asked anyone with information to come forward.

A police spokesman said: "Tragically this incident has resulted in a woman's death. Our thoughts are with her family.

"We continue to urge anyone who witnessed the collision or has any other information that can help with our investigation to contact police immediately."
