RMT slams tender delay

RAIL Union RMT has slammed the Government over its decision to push back the re-tendering timetable for the east coast main line to 2013.

The east coast line is currently publicly owned after National Express walked away from the franchise in 2009. Yesterday, it was reported that re-tendering is being put back to 2013, which RMT believes is designed to help private businesses.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: "There is no doubt that this delay is all about fattening up the route for maximum private profit under one of the ConDem Government's new 15-year, gold-plated franchises."
