A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged assault and breaches of the peace following a disturbance at the Picture House in the early hours of 7 May.”

Riordan signed for St Johnstone on a short-term contract in March this year.

He has been capped three times by Scotland, and also played for Hibernian and Celtic.

He had been due to appear in court yesterday, however a spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police later said the footballer was scheduled to appear on 30 May.
