Right-wing demonstrator fined £500

A RIGHT-wing demonstrator has been fined £500 for a breach of the peace in the Royal Mile.

Scott Buchan, 23, of Aylesbury, in Buckinghamshire, travelled to the Capital earlier this year to take part in a demonstration by right-wing group, the Defence League.

He pled guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court previously. Sentence was deferred until yesterday.

Fiscal Depute Graham Fraser said Buchan was among the Defence League group. He bumped into police officers and despite being warned to move away, repeatedly walked into the road preventing traffic from passing.

Sheriff Frank Crowe told Buchan: "You are entitled to protest but you were committing a breach of the peace by persistently offending in a tense situation."
