Right royal pay disparity

Scots are being paid less to do the same seasonal jobs at Palace of Holyroodhouse than those in Buckingham Palace – because they are not being given “holiday pay”.

The summer jobs pay 2p-an-hour more at the Queen’s official Scottish residence in Edinburgh. But the Buckingham Palace jobs come with an extra 77p-an-hour “holiday pay”.

The jobs are meant to help cope with the expected boom in visitor numbers during The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

A spokeswoman for Royal Collection Enterprises said the “holiday pay” was in effect the extra cost of working in London.
